Boxed Lunches from The Beach Cabin

Our boxed lunches come in a paper bag or a box. If you're headed to a picnic at the beach, or holding a lunch or dinner business meeting, we recommend our boxed lunches. Sometimes a little sturdier container is a good thing, and for business meetings, a boxed lunch sure does imply a treat!

PANINI/PANINO means 'sandwich or sandwiches' in Italian. All of our sandwiches are great cold as well as grilled. If you're not going to eat the sandwiches within 5 minutes of being grilled, we recommend cold. You can also pop any of our sandwiches into the oven, bake on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes, and they are terrific! Looking for an easy dinner to serve after a busy day? Buy our lunches anytime during the day, keep refrigerated, and take home for an easy, delicious dinner.

For orders of 6 or more panini, we sure do appreciate advance notice, but by all means, don't hesitate to come in or call if you need something today. Select from what we've got everyday, we'll make more! That's our goal: to keep making more!

Our basic boxed/bag lunches range from $7 to $8, and include any of our side salads, or a bag of Tim's Potato Chips instead of a salad. Beverages can be included too. Utensils, and napkin and a sugar cookie round out this great lunch or dinner.

PANINI / SANDWICH CHOICES:
The Non-Sandwich Salad Trio Lunch
Choose 3 of our daily special salads for a great lunch. Salads vary daily.
The Beach Cabin Favorite
Fresh Bufala Mozzarela, red ripe tomatoes, fresh basil & our olive oil/balsamic viniagrette. Served on organic rosemary bread.
The Mediterranean
We grill fresh eggplant slices, roast red or yellow peppers, add French feta, Italian olives, arugula/seasonal lettuce and red ripe tomatoes. Organic olive bread, or organic rosemary bread.
Pacific Northwest Tuna & Cheddar
Our tuna sandwich is available Monday/Wednesday/Friday or by special order. Our tuna is the freshest, most flavorful Pacific NW tuna because it is caught and immediately processed aboard ship. You'll enjoy a mix of tuna, celery and pickles but no onions, white cheddar, red ripe tomatoes, arugula/seasonal lettuce on a variety of organic breads.
Roasted Chicken & Gouda
We use freshly roasted free-range chicken breasts, delicious Gouda cheese, red ripe tomatoes, a wonderful garlic-pesto, arugula/seasonal lettuce on a variety of organic breads.
Flank Steak & White Cheddar
Did you know that flank steak is the leanest of beef? We marinate ours in a rich balsamic marinade, grill rare, and include a touch of horseradish, white cheddar cheese, red ripe tomatoes, arugula/seasonal lettuce on a variety of organic breads.
BBQ Chicken & White Cheddar
This is a chef's special sandwich, and we do not have it every day. By all means, give us a day's notice, and we'll make it for you! A deliciously great sandwich with our freshly roasted chicken mixed with BBQ sauce, celery and sauteed onions, with white cheddar, red ripe tomatoes, and arugula/seasonal lettuce on a variety of organic breads. Pretty dang good!
Whidbey’s Best BLT
This just happens to be my favorite sandwich. I love it! We use naturally cured bacon with no nitrates and no nitrites. You can tell the difference - this tastes so fresh and so good. This has bacon, red ripe tomatoes, white cheddar cheese, arugula/seasonal lettuce on a variety of organic breads.
Three Cheese Panino
Another big hit! You don't need to be vegetarian to love this sandwich! We use gouda, danish havarti and white cheddar, with garlic-pesto and red ripe tomatoes for the most delicious, grown-up grilled cheese ever.
KIDS VERSION, Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Kids like 'em plain most everytime. If your child is small, we'll use one slice of bread with havarti cheese & nothing else. If your child is tall, we'll use two slices of bread with havarti cheese & nothing else. Usually the kids like the organic sourdough or the organic multigrane breads best.
Black Forest Ham & White Cheddar
Again, it's the nitrate/nitrite free meats that are the healthiest, and the absolute best-tasting! Made with black forest ham, white cheddar, red ripe tomatoes, arugula/seasonal lettuce on a variety of organic breads.
Turkey & Havarti
Thin sliced, natural turkey, Danish havarti, red ripe tomatoes, arugula/seasonal lettuce on a variety of organic breads.

ROAD TRIP!

How many times did you go on family drives when you were growing up? In the 1960's our family would pile into the station wagon, and we'd go all over Washington State. Generally, our destinations included somewhere with snow or water, so the kids could get out of the car, run around and let off some energy. If we behaved ourselves, we got to stop for ice cream as a special treat! Woo-hoo, that ice cream was a big, big deal!

Washington State has added Whidbey Island to their official Scenic Byways, and we're the first island Scenic Byway. Our Byway is officially called The Whidbey Island Scenic Isle Way. No matter what you call it, it's worth the drive, and well worth the memories you'll build ... just be sure to get out of the car and discover Whidbey.

WELCOME to The Beach Cabin

Welcome to The Beach Cabin. We are located in Freeland, Washington on beautiful Whidbey Island.

If you're reading this, you probably know something about us already. If not, welcome to The Beach Cabin! We opened our store in September 2005, with a mix of take-out foods and retail gift items for your friends, yourself, and your "Beach Cabin". If you're not local, we can ship your items anywhere you'd like, so don't hesitate to choose something you want, but may not have room for in your car, or on your vacation.

Our food is all take-out, or "pick-up" catering. In the spring, summer & fall, we invite you to enjoy our picnic area with picnic tables, or let us help you choose great picnic foods for your day at one of Whidbey's best BEACHES. ( .... Need a map of Whidbey?).
If you live or work near us, we are available to help you plan the foods for your next meeting or party. We can do boxed lunches that are sure to please everyone in your group -- our panini sandwiches are great served cold for your meeting. A typical boxed lunch is a sandwich, one of our fabulous salads, and a cookie. We can add fruit or a dessert, or a beverage as requested.

We would love 2 or 3 days notice for your event, but we'll try as much as possible to help you if you have any last minute needs. If your event falls on a Sunday or Monday when we are closed, we will work with you for minimum orders of $150.00 or more.

Feel free to contact Leanne at info@thebeachcabin.com for more information about your event.

Catering/Entertaining Suggestions

We change our daily main dishes and salads frequently, especially by season. If you are planning a work function, or entertaining, our main course dishes, salads and party planning trays are fabulous choices. We can lend you our dishes, or provide disposable baking dishes too.

All of our catering is 'pick up' style, unless you wish a delivery. Most deliveries are $20, if within a 15 minute drive from our location in Freeland. We cannot deliver outside of the main business district in Freeland between 11:00 - 2:00 due to the busy lunch schedule.

Our boxed / brown bag lunches also make great dinners for any style dinner meeting you are planning.

Tom & The Beach Cabin Hat

This is a true story ....

Hi Leanne,
Hope all's well.

Almost called you to buy one of your great hats (like the one you gave me). It's my favorite hat or cap, because it makes me look less stupid than others. Well, the wind blew it off my head while walking at Golden Gate bridge with a couple of friends from Belgium. Fortunately I was able to follow its flight path all the way into the bushes down below. By the time I climbed down and roamed through the bushes, no more hat. This really made me mad. Mostly because all the tourists down there were looking at me funny as I carefully disappeared into the bushes, then came out and made my way back in from a different point. After a while I gave up and climbed back up the stairs to the bridge. Once on top, I took my camera, zoomed in and after carefully looking at the whole growth, branch after branch, I noticed a spot of a different color. So I climbed down and found my hat.

Thought you wanted to know.

Tom

Leanne,
You have a blog?

I don't know about a picture of me. That's pushing it a little.

I am not sure I could get the bushes and the bridge into the same picture. The bushes are ground level, then there is a tall concrete wall, stairs, another pathway up and then the bridge. I don't know where the pathway leads to, because as soon as I got on it, my hat blew off and I was too busy running down and up and down trying to find and retrieve it.

However, Shirley is off this weekend and I just may take her to that spot by the bridge with my new camera and take a few pix. If I get a good one, I'll send it.

Tom

Leanne,
Well, we did go to Golden Gate,
however, there was no way to get the bushes, the bridge and my head into the same picture. BTW, in the meanwhile they trimmed those bushes and now they were barely about chest high. Why couldn't they trim the damn things before my hat fell in. Now it's a piece-o-cake and pleasure to look for things there. I found seven umbrellas, four hats, a camera and three shoes. (No, not really.)
So my excursion to the bridge wasn't wasted, I took a picture of the cap (the actual cap) sitting on different bushes. Picture attached.

Stay well,

t.

A Recent Visitor to The Beach Cabin

Sometimes when you don't expect it, you get a visitor. This is Attilla the turtle ...
Attilla stopped by for a visit to The Beach Cabin a few weeks ago. He was on his way to visit the vet in Freeland. We found out that he goes twice a year for his turtle check-up.
My guess is that when Dr. Parent studied to become a veterinarian he didn't expect anyone in his practice to take care of an African desert turtle.(
(tortoise? I don't know ... better find out!) Dr. Parent is the vet we take our dog to, and we've found everyone at Useless Bay Animal Clinic to be top notch, and quite worthy of helping our pets. Attilla is owned by Nikki and her husband, Luke.
